Explosion reported in New Jersey involving truck hauling boat in transport container

Firefighters are investigating a car explosion that occurred on a New Jersey freeway on Monday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on April 17 in Union Township, New Jersey.

Officers say {that a} truck hauling a transport container was eastbound on Route 22 en path to a port in Elizabeth when the boat contained in the container caught hearth after which exploded.

No accidents had been reported.

Union Fireplace Chief Greg Ricciardi instructed TapIntoUnion that the explosion blew the doorways off of the container and despatched them flying 150 ft away.

Route 22 was closed for a lot of the morning rush hour however has since reopened.
