Part of I-94 in Detroit closed this weekend; reopen by Tuesday

For those who drive by way of Detroit on Interstate 94, be ready for change this weekend. 

Climate allowing, Michigan Division of Transportation contract crews shall be engaged on the brand new Second Avenue bridge over I-94, in addition to persevering with work on the Grand River Avenue overpass above I-94. For security, this work would require closing eastbound and westbound I-94 between I-75 and M-10 (Lodge Freeway) beginning at 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16. Each instructions of I-94 are anticipated to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Work on the Grand River Avenue overpass is restricted to weekend hours, leading to extending the closure on I-94 between I-75 and I-96. Work on the Grand River Avenue overpass begins at 9 p.m. Friday and ends by 9 p.m. Sunday.       

Westbound I-94 visitors shall be detoured by way of southbound I-75 and westbound I-96 again to westbound I-94. All entrance ramps to westbound I-94 from Mt. Elliott to John R. streets shall be closed. 

Eastbound I-94 visitors shall be detoured by way of eastbound I-96 and northbound I-75 again to eastbound I-94. All entrance ramps to eastbound I-94 from thirtieth Avenue to M-10 (Lodge Freeway) shall be closed. 

Ramps in each instructions will shut by 5 a.m. Friday and reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday.        

Visitors on northbound and southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) may have entry to westbound I-94 throughout daytime on Friday and Monday.
