Self-driving automobile rear ends semi truck even with human driver at wheel

An autonomous automobile rear ended a semi truck throughout a self driving pilot program on the LAs Vegas strip on Monday. 

The crash occurred on November 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada close to the Planet Hollywood Resort. 

In response to the Las Vegas Evaluation-Journal, a 2016 Toyota Highlander with a human driver inside was working itself alongside Harmon Avenue when it rear-ended a semi truck owned by Las Vegas Paving. Nobody was harm within the crash. The automobile was part of an autonomous automobile pilot program run by Zoox. 

Throughout a police investigation, the lady inside the automobile on the time of the crash advised officers that she was in command of the automobile, however had anticipated the automobile to cease by itself. By the point she realized the automobile was not going to cease for the semi truck forward, it was too late. 

“(She) acknowledged that she bought confused and didn’t know what occurred however thought that the automobile was going to cease by itself and that she was too shut when she realized it wasn’t going to cease,” the incident report states.
