Officers in Vermont cited a semi truck driver following a Monday collision with an Amtrak prepare.
The crash occurred at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, February 27, at an unguarded rail crossing in solely serving the the Black River Quarries in Sharon, Vermont.
In keeping with the Vermont Division of Motor Autos Enforcement & Security Division, “the tractor-trailer unit was in movement because it crossed the tracks, at which level the Amtrak prepare collided with the trailer that was hauling stone. The trailer broke free from the truck at influence, preserving the truck from being dragged alongside the tracks. The gap from level of influence to the prepare’s remaining place of relaxation was 926 toes.”
No accidents had been reported.
The prepare was touring at 57 m.p.h. on the time of the collision.
Sixty-six passengers had been onboard the prepare when the crash occurred.
The semi truck driver, later recognized as 62 yr previous Massachusetts resident Michael Delaney, was issued a quotation for trying to cross the railroad tracks when unsafe to take action, officers say.
DMV Enforcement and Amtrak Police are nonetheless investigating the incident.
