Truck hauling lithium batteries explodes at Alabama truck cease

Firefighters are on the scene of an explosion that occurred at a truck cease in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday.

The incident occurred on March 31 on the Flying J on Daniel Payne Drive close to I-65.

Authorities say that the explosion occurred close to the rear of a truck that was hauling lithium batteries saved in 55 gallon containers.

WBRC experiences that the truck driver was not contained in the car when the explosion occurred.

No accidents have been reported.

Birmingham firefighters say that the incident has been contained as of two p.m., however a number of businesses stay on the scene for clear up and investigation.
